Snow Day

Snow Day

Pomfret students enjoyed a snow day on the Hilltop.

There is no day quite like a snow day — and the first Friday of the New Year was no exception. Over a foot of snow fell on the Hilltop and had students itching to get outside. When classes finally ended for the week, the Griffins headed out to the hills near the Olmsted Student Union and Parsons Lodge armed with sleds, skis, snowboards, and more.

With no sports practices scheduled that afternoon, students got their exercise climbing up the large hills after each sledding run. Some daredevils even set up jumps to get some height after their run down the hill.

As an alternative to sledding, other students built snowmen, made snow angels, and had snowball fights. The boys varsity basketball team took on the boys varsity hockey team in a friendly game of football on the snow-covered turf field.

“It felt amazing to get outside! It was relieving to see my friends and hear their laughter as we sledded and played with the snow,” said Javier Alonso Valcarcel ’22. “Even though I’ve been in cold places before, living in one of them is a whole other story. I hope to make more moments like this as I adapt to my first and last winter term on the Pomfret Hilltop!
