SPRING COLLEGE FAIR RETURNS TO THE HILLTOP

More than 80 colleges and universities participated this year.

Students flooded into Lewis Gymnasium for this year's spring college fair. More than eighty representatives from colleges and universities across the country — and the world — stood ready to meet them. Some students came prepared with a list of colleges they wanted to connect with. Others had specific things they wanted to know. Still others meandered from table to table, soaking in as much information as they could about each school.

Students and admissions representatives were thankful to have the opportunity to connect with one another. One two-year senior remarked it was his first and last college fair at Pomfret. While college fairs were not held in person during the pandemic, students did have the opportunity to connect with college reps through virtual visits

“It was great to have college admissions representatives back on the Hilltop,” remarked Director of College Counseling Bruce Wolanin. “It was amazing to see our students confidently asking informed questions. Their inquires were the outcome of the hard work and time they put in preparing for the fair with their advisors and college counselors."

At Pomfret, the college search process begins during freshman year with students exploring their interests and abilities. It continues as sophomores discover their talents, and juniors strengthen and focus on their promise and potential. In the final year, the search process culminates with seniors presenting their best selves to the colleges of their choice.

"After the fair, juniors should have a better understanding of what schools they want to visit and what they want to study," shared Wolanin. "Our younger students should be energized by the college fair and understand what next steps they should take on the Hilltop to get them to where they want to go."

As for seniors, the college fair gave them an opportunity to thank the admissions representatives they previously connected with. It was also an opportunity for the college reps to thank them back. "This was an awesome fair!" said Patrick Mooney, an admissions officer from Wagner College. "Thank you for having us."
