2022 Alumni Awards

The Alumni Association will honor five individuals and one team.

Each year the Alumni Association recognizes the accomplishments of alumni and other distinguished members of the Pomfret family. Five alums and one athletics team will be celebrated during a dinner reception on Saturday, June 11 at 6:00 p.m.

William Beach Olmsted Distinguished Service Award

Adolphus “Dolph” Clinton ’92 will receive the William Beach Olmsted Distinguished Service Award, the Alumni Association’s highest honor. Named in honor of the Reverend William Beach Olmsted, who served as headmaster for thirty-two years, the award was created to recognize and honor distinguished, sustained, and dedicated service to Pomfret School. Dolph Clinton’s service to Pomfret School spans over three decades, beginning as a student, then a faculty member, and most recently as a class agent and volunteer.

Alumni Award

The Honorable Eric D. Coleman ’69 will receive the Alumni Award for demonstrated ongoing interest, loyalty, and commitment to the School and his distinguished achievement in his chosen profession. He has dedicated his life and career to service and making a difference in the lives of others as a member of the Connecticut state legislature. In May 2018, he was appointed as a Connecticut Superior Court Judge. Eric served as a member of the Board of Trustees from 1984 to 1988 and currently serves on the School's Alumni Association Executive Council. Most recently, Eric was on campus in May as the Commencement speaker for the Class of 2022.

Alumni Association Achievement Medal

Chelsea Cutler ’15 will receive in absentia the Pomfret School Alumni Association Achievement Medal. The medal is presented each year to alumni who have graduated in the last twenty-five years and have demonstrated outstanding service to society and/or excellence in their endeavors. Chelsea is a singer, songwriter, and producer with over two billion cumulative streams. In November, Chelsea was named to Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the music category. After a successful tour of her second album, When I Close My Eyes, she is now playing music festivals throughout the summer and will be playing at the Governors Ball Music Festival during reunion weekend.

Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee

James C. Goodale ’51 will be inducted into the Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame. While a student at Pomfret, Jim played four varsity sports — football, basketball, hockey, and baseball. He led the football team in rushing, the baseball team in batting, and was tied for top scorer in hockey — a sport he had never played before. Following Pomfret, Jim attended Yale University, where he was a starter on the varsity hockey and baseball teams. After college, he joined the St. Nick’s hockey team, which at the time played US college teams, and he was active in competitive tennis and squash.

Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee

The 2009–2010 Girls Basketball Team will also be inducted into the Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame.  As NEPSAC Class B champions, the team went undefeated 28-0. They beat out Class A champions — effectively crowning them the best team in New England. The team was known for its exceptional sportsmanship, true team playing, and leadership, and was made great by the whole rather than by any one individual. This team was also known for pulling the community together, as large percentages of the student body turned up to see them compete in — and ultimately win — many close contests.

S. Prescott B. Clement Cup

William "Cooper" Hastings ’01 will receive the S. Prescott B. Clement Cup for his dedicated service as a class agent. He has worked diligently to keep his classmates connected to each other and the School. In his first two years as a class agent, he helped his class increase their participation from 28 percent to 41 percent. Currently, the Class of 2001 is on the path to reaching all-time high participation numbers.
