A Whole New Ballgame

Mia Fuller and Shane McDonough sign national letters of intent.

Surrounded by family, friends, teammates, and coaches, two Pomfret seniors signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) this past fall to continue their athletic careers at Division I and II levels. The ceremonies celebrated the athletes' years of hard work and dedication.

In November, Shane McDonough ’22 signed an NLI to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Canisius College. He will always be a Pomfret Griffin and next fall will become a Golden Griffin.

“Playing lacrosse has been my entire life. Coming to Pomfret to play was a big step for me to be able to enhance my skills and challenge myself with my peers every day,” said Shane. “Lacrosse is so much more than a game for me and my people. The opportunity to play at Canisius at the Division I level is truly a blessing and I couldn't be happier. My journey through and time at Pomfret has grown me as not just a player but a person as well.”

In December, before her first game as a Pomfret Griffin, Mia Fuller ’22 signed her NLI to play Division II basketball at Wilmington University.

“Signing with Wilmington University made me feel accomplished! I have been playing basketball since I was seven years old and all the hard work I have put in over the past ten years has paid off — it's very rewarding,” said Mia. “I am super grateful to the excellent and supportive faculty at Pomfret.”

Future NLI signings are possible this year as students and college recruiters recover from the disruptions in sports during the pandemic. Additionally, several Griffins have been recruited to play sports at Division III schools.
