Building Access

How do I access the school buildings and dorms?

Pomfret’s exterior doors are locked and buildings are accessible only to those with credentials to our academic buildings, athletic facilities, the Main House, the Health and Wellness Center, and the Olmsted Student Union using the electronic key system. Additionally, residents and affiliates of boys dorms are allowed access to the exterior doors of all boys dorms, residents and affiliates of girls dorms are allowed access to the exterior doors of all girls dorms, and day students have access to the Day Room.

Use Your Cellphone

You should have received an email from Avigilon Alta [setup@openpath.com] with instructions to download the app for either iOS or Android and set up your mobile device. When prompted to select location access preferences for Alta Open, it is important to select “always.” Once you’ve downloaded the app and connected your mobile device, you can access permitted areas by waving your hand in front of the electronic reader — even with your cell phone in your backpack or back pocket!

Use Your PomfretCard

Both new and returning students can also use their PomfretCard as an electronic key. To gain access, simply touch your PomfretCard to the card reader.

While both the Alta Open app and your PomfretCard can be used to gain access to buildings across campus, we find the Alta Open app to be the more convenient option and strongly recommend that all students download the app and use it as their primary electronic key.
