This course will teach students to develop creative digital images while communicating their ideas graphically with two professional design and editing software programs, Adobe: Photoshop and Illustrator. This course places an emphasis on print and web media while stressing the importance of creativity, exploration, design techniques and software mechanics. This course will teach students to understand aesthetic language, re-evaluate and evolve as an artist to develop creative and imaginative visual art. As an introductory course, no previous experience is necessary. Drawing or painting pre-requisite encouraged.

Music Production I is an intro course where students will study contemporary electronic music composition, technique, performance, and recording using synthesis, computer sequencing, and recording technology. Through projects and instruction, students will learn the basic process of producing a piece of music by editing MIDI and Audio data, using active listening to analyze productions of any genre, and applying basic techniques to manipulate sounds within the Digital Audio Workstation using Balance, Panning, EQ, Compression, Delay and Reverb.

Design / Build is an introductory course on the creation of 3 dimensional objects and the fundamental principals of 3D Design. Students will understand the basics of prototyping objects, understanding it's structural integrity as functional form, developing objects through the design thinking and creative process, and realizing their creative vision by building their own 3D objects using industry leading 3D modeling and CAD software. As an introductory course, no previous experience is necessary.

Foley — The art of creating sound effects for film, television, and other media using everyday objects and techniques. From footsteps to clothing rustle, you'll discover how to create realistic and engaging soundscapes that bring scenes to life. Through practical exercises and demonstrations, you'll develop the skills and knowledge needed to enhance storytelling with sound.

Songwriting for Guitar is a course where students learn to build a portfolio of original songs. This course is open to students who are totally new to the guitar as well as those who have experience playing the instrument. Over the course of the term, students learn how to improve their guitar playing, singing, and lyrical writing skills, as well as honing in on the specific techniques and skills that go into writing a successful song.

The video game industry is a multibillion dollar industry that employs a large creative workforce in many different areas. In this course the students will learn the basic design principles and elements of 3D design so they can enter the world of digital modeling and animation using the programs Poser & Blender.  Design thinking will assist in planning a concept of a video game with storyline and character development. They will then create, develop, animate and render a character for their game.  Design thinking will assist in conceptualization of ideas, creative problem solving as well as using critical thinking to resolve new challenges and implement their vision. As an introductory course, no previous experience is necessary.

The Recording Techniques course offers a practical approach to contemporary recording, editing, mixing, and post-production methods aimed at musicians who wish to record themselves and others in a personal recording setup. By completing hands-on projects, including a final recording and mixing project, students will gain an understanding of audio technology basics, microphone usage, recording methods, audio signal routing, working with a DAW, file exchange, signal processing, editing, and mixing skills.

Photography: People as Subject is a term long exploration of the art of photographing people as subjects. Students will be introduced to digital photography through a variety of assignments that range from pinhole photography to complex digital composites. Students will utilize a variety of digital tools as they learn to control composition, exposure, motion, and depth of field. Students will examine storytelling, subject lighting, self portraits and work with expressing emotions in people to complete the coursework. Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop will help students develop digital post-processing techniques, and critique and course discussions will allow students to discover and apply critical principles of art. This photography course is taught through a series of lectures, discussions, critiques, and hands-on assignments. Completion of this art course will fulfill one Arts graduation requirement.

Hiding within your smart phone is one of the most inspiring, capable, and fun imaging systems in all of photography. More than just a snapshot device, the smart phone is a powerful creative tool: a camera, darkroom, and visual research laboratory that allows you to capture and process images in the field, all with unprecedented color, depth, and texture. It excels at assignments that in the old days could have only been tackled by a heavy DSLR. Explore the capabilities of your smart phone, document the world around you, explore alternative techniques in web based Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom and assemble a portfolio worthy of a gallery display.
