"The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled." - Plutarch
As teachers, we aim to do much more than pass knowledge on to the next generation. Our goal, even in a distance learning model, is to offer opportunities for discovery, reflection, problem-solving, skill development, community, communication, and collaboration, and to insist that students, in varied ways, make their thinking and growth visible.
We will do this by identifying core learning objectives and sharing them with our students; by creating "way-finding resources" that guide learners through the complexities of each week; by hosting video conferences and office hours to support student learning and build relationships; by creating meaningful assignments and academic tasks that reinforce the skills introduced through video elements and resources that we fashion. We will do this by break down any barriers that distance, time, and technology may present.
