Matt Scanlan ’07

Scanlan is the founder and chief executive officer of Naadam Cashmere. The mission-driven company is committed to responsibly sourcing and producing luxury knitwear that preserves and extends the values of nomadic life.

After spending two years on Wall Street and finding the work unfulfilling, he quit and decided to travel. On his trip to Mongolia in 2013, Scanlan was inspired to disrupt a thousand-year-old business model by purchasing wool directly from herders at fair prices. His idea and company have transformed that industry’s supply chain and are now bringing in $100 million a year.

In 2018, Forbes named Scanlan one of their 30 under 30 for social entrepreneurship. Scanlan is also the co-founder of Naadam Bogd Fund, a Mongolia-based NGO focused on supporting nomadic herding communities throughout Mongolia, and a general partner at Magic Hour Ventures, a seed-stage venture fund focused on sustainable consumer investments
