French I introduces students to the basic elements of French vocabulary and grammar.  This first year course introduces the learner to the different cultures and civilizations of the Franco-phonic countries around the world.  It simultaneously acquaints them with the skills essential to learning a foreign language: listening/comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing.  Language laboratory work, in addition to classroom instruction, aids the students in gaining proficiency.
