This course uses calculus-based mathematical models to introduce the fundamental concepts that describe the physical world. Topics include units and measurement, vector operations, linear kinematics and dynamics, energy, power, momentum, rotational mechanics, periodic motion, and quantum and relativistic physics. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the principles involved and display analytical problem-solving ability for the topics covered. Students should expect rigorous mathematical interpretation with extensive use of the TI N-spire calculator and computer software. Laboratory experiments and computer-based simulations and tutorials enhance and consolidate the basic principles discussed in the theoretical section of the course.
Departmental approval is required for this course. Open to students who have excelled in a Honors Physics course and who demonstrate the mathematical skills necessary to handle calculus-based material.
