The Advanced Chemistry course is designed as a second-year course in chemistry, building on the foundation mastered in Honors Chemistry at Pomfret – this course is not appropriate as a first-year course in chemistry. Students will be introduced to topics covered in college-level chemistry (thermodynamics, kinetics, equilibrium, etc.) while experiencing a more advanced treatment of material explored in Honors Chemistry. This class will use a lecture-discussion format, and students are expected to keep up with the accelerated pace. This class will emphasize the laboratory-based nature of chemistry, with students completing labs every week; students will learn to work safely and effectively in the laboratory setting. Finally, success in Advanced Chemistry will require students to be knowledgeable and have a strong understanding of both the lecture and laboratory material.

Open to juniors and seniors who have excelled in Honors Chemistry.
