Pomfret athletes end spring with titles and records.
As the spring athletic season came to a close, Pomfret’s athletes delivered a memorable final act — earning championships, setting school records, and leaving everything on the field. Through thrilling wins and standout performances in the face of fierce competition, the Griffin spirit shone brightly across courts, tracks, and waterways.
The ultimate team after their winning sweep at the NEPSUL Division II Championship.
In its sophomore season, the Ultimate team went undefeated and claimed the New England Prep School Ultimate League (NEPSUL) Division II Championship. Game after game, they edged out tough opponents to keep their winning streak alive. Entering their first NEPSUL tournament as the top seed, the team battled through soaking rain and sweltering sun, besting Eaglebrook (11–5), Nobles (9–5), Deerfield (11–4), and MacDuffie (9–6), to earn the program’s first title.
Gus Litowitz ’25 threw an impressive 140 feet 3 inches for a third-place finish.
Twenty-two members of the track and field team qualified and competed at the New England Prep School Track Association Division III Championships. Out of thirty-eight teams, the boys placed tenth and the girls thirteenth. It was a day filled with personal triumphs, more PRs, and six new school records. Top finishers for the boys team included Gus Litowitz ’25, who placed third in the Javelin; James Tian ’28, fourth in the 400 meters; and Aiden Bow '25, sixth in the high jump. Both boys relay teams secured fifth-place finishes, with Ethan Offei-Addo ’26, Mustafa Hassan ’25, Yusuf Dakane ’25, and Shomarie Remekie ’27 running the 4x100 and James Tian ’28, Cayden Auyang ’27, Jay Youm ’26, and Brennan Hladney ’27 running the 4x400. On the girls side, Gracie Needham ’26 ran personal bests in the 1500 and 400 meters, for a fourth and fifth place finish, respectively. Rowan Lehmann ’27 soared her way into third place in the 100-meter hurdles and fifth place in the 300-meter hurdles.
Girls tennis earned the top seed in the NEPSAC Class C Tournament.
After finishing the regular season with a 9–2 record, girls tennis earned the top seed in the NEPSAC Class C Tournament. In the quarterfinals against Mount St. Charles, the Griffins blanked the Mounties with a 7–0 victory before dropping a hard-fought 3–4 decision to King School in the semifinals.
Jacky Wu ’25 qualified for the Class A New England Prep School Invitational Tennis Tournament (NEPSITT) for the third consecutive year. The tournament, featuring New England's top singles and doubles players, pitted him against strong opponents from Deerfield Academy and South Kent School.
The first boat rowed in a tightly contested heat at the NEIRA Regatta.
In crew, three boys boats qualified for the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association (NEIRA) Regatta. The second and fourth boats each placed sixth in their heats. The first boat — comprised of Peter Clapp ’26, Lachlan Warford ’25, Cal Wolanin ’25, Sean Rhatigan ’25, and coxswain Sammie Porres ’25 — rowed in a tightly contested heat, battling Lyme-Old Lyme and Notre Dame at the line. In a heartbreakingly close finish, they placed fifth, just 0.202 seconds behind Notre Dame, missing a spot in the finals.
The baseball team faced off against Millbrook in the Western New England Prep Baseball League (WNEPBL) Crossover Playoff. Hoping to avenge their earlier-season loss to the Mustangs, the Griffins ultimately came up short.
In their year-end tournaments, both boys and girls lacrosse teams met tough competition in their divisions. In day-long battles, they left it all on the field in their final games as a team.
Whether bringing home hardware, smashing personal records, or simply giving it their all, every Griffin athlete helped shape a spring season defined by grit, growth, and pride. The victories were sweet — but the journey, and the heart behind it, mattered just as much.
