We are excited to announce that Ryan Tyree has been appointed head coach of the boys varsity squash team for the 2026–2027 season.

Coach Tyree brings a wealth of experience and success to Pomfret’s squash program. He most recently served as the boys varsity squash head coach at Deerfield Academy, where he oversaw one of the top programs in New England for three seasons. 

Prior to Deerfield, Coach Tyree served as the inaugural director of squash at Mercersburg Academy in 2019, where he elevated both the boys and girls programs. The girls team secured a US Squash Division IV National Championship in 2022 before playing alongside Division II schools such as Middlesex, Choate, and Exeter. The boys team progressed from competing in Division V to Division I over three seasons.

Tyree has also coached at Eaglebrook School and later at Williston Northampton School, where he led the boys squash team to a US Squash Division VI National Championship. His coaching philosophy has been shaped by the mentorship of legendary Trinity College Men’s Coach Paul Assaiante, whose emphasis on leadership and team building has had a lasting influence on his approach to developing student-athletes.

Beyond the court, Tyree is an accomplished English educator, holding a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Phoenix and a master’s degree in English literature from Middlebury College, where he was twice awarded the Robert Haiduke Poetry Prize.
