It has been less than two months since Heather Willis Daly was announced as Pomfret’s next head of school, and yet Pomfret School is already deep into planning for her arrival. Transitions are not nearly as exciting as searches, but they are just as important.
Incoming heads face an appreciable challenge: to fully internalize the climate and culture of a school they are still getting to know while simultaneously representing the school with purpose and authenticity. Even for an accomplished school leader like Heather, it takes time.
With that in mind, Pomfret School has formed the Head of School Transition Committee. This new committee is an added layer of support that will help guide and support Heather as she steps into her new role. The members of the transition committee are:
- Daryle Bost ’89, Pomfret Board of Trustees Vice Chair
- Brenda Bullied, Director of Planning and Facilities Services
- Garry Dow, Director of Strategic Marketing and Communication
- Martha Horst, Dean of Faculty
- Lindsay Paul, Board of Trustees Treasurer
In the coming months, this committee will work with Heather. Their primary goal is to help her build as many deep human connections with as many members of the Pomfret community as possible before she arrives. The committee is also charged with identifying key institutional resources, including financial resources, that Heather can use to inform her strategic priorities as incoming head.
The committee will extend an invitation to Heather to visit Pomfret prior to her official arrival date. During the visit, students, faculty, and staff will get the chance to meet and mingle with Heather in both formal and informal settings.
