The girls varsity soccer team crowned an unforgettable season as NEPSAC Class C Champions. Finishing the regular season with an impressive record of 10-4-4, the Griffins entered the tournament as the third seed. They dominated Portsmouth Abbey in the quarterfinals, edged out Greens Farms Academy in a tense semifinal match, and staged a thrilling comeback to defeat Brewster Academy in the finals. This momentous victory marked the culmination of an incredible season full of determination and teamwork.

Pomfret entered the championship match prepared to play their third game in five days. They were physically drained and battling fatigue and injury but were mentally fortified. Despite facing the top-seeded and 2022 NEPSAC C champion Brewster Academy Bobcats — who had tallied a staggering 93 goals this season— the Griffins were focused and determined to win the school’s first girls soccer championship in twenty-six years.

During each tournament game, Captain Quinn Sharfstein '25 prevented her opponent from making plays.

Throughout the first half, defenders Ella Sousa '27, Rita Rawcliffe '27, Zoe Lovett '25, and Audrey Heidt '26 excelled in neutralizing Brewster’s high-powered offense, and goalie Maddy Antos ’27 made several clutch saves. The hard work of Quinn Sharfstein '25, Sara Gagne ’25, Leila Boland ’26, Gracie Needham '26, and Milanna Lamontagne '26 in the midfield limited Brewster’s ability to make plays. The scoreboard still read 0-0 at halftime — an early triumph that helped fuel the team’s energy and mindset in the second half.

Brewster’s frustration with the inability to capitalize on multiple opportunities to find the back of the net fueled Pomfret's determination and resilience. The Griffins dug deep and turned the tide when the Bobcats scored with 15 minutes remaining. Six minutes later, on a throw-in by Amber Sherman '28, Krystal Medina Angeles '25 received the ball, beat her defender, and set up Gracie, who drilled the ball into the net, equalizing the score. The goal energized the team and the crowd, setting up a dramatic finish.

With just four minutes left in the game, Krystal and Amber connected again, finding Gabbie Brown '26 at the top of the box, who coolly slotted the game-winning goal. Brewster attempted a late push, but Pomfret’s defense held firm. As the final whistle sounded, fans rushed the field,  celebrating the team’s historic triumph. It was an outstanding finish to the 2024 season.

Gabbie Brown ’26 scored four goals and had one assist in the semifinal against Portsmouth Abbey.

Pomfret began dominating the NESPAC Class C tournament by hosting the quarterfinal against the sixth-seeded Portsmouth Abbey. In front of a lively and supportive home crowd, the Griffins controlled the game from the start and never let up. Within the first eight minutes, Gabbie delivered an astonishing hat trick, with Amber assisting on each goal. Amber later scored one of her own before Gabbie secured her fourth of the match. Krystal showcased her playmaking ability, contributing assists on three goals, including one by Gracie— the sixth score of the game. Early in the second half, Amber found the net again, this time with an assist from Gabbie. With the game well in hand, the team focused on sharpening their skills and maintaining control.

Standout performances came from Ella, Rita, Zoe, Leila, and Audrey on defense. Midfielders Quinn, Sara, Milanna, Katie Beck ’25, and Regina Rubiano ’25 excelled in transitioning play to the attacking front, while goalkeepers Maddy and Layla Pini ’25 combined efforts to secure the shutout.

In the semifinal match, Pomfret traveled to Greens Farms Academy to face the reigning NEPSAC Class C champion and second seed on their home field. Ella, Rita, Audrey, Zoe, and Leila held the line against relentless attacks in a tight, defensive battle, while Maddy earned another shutout with crucial saves. Midfielders Quinn, Sara, and Milanna kept the pressure on Greens Farms, enabling the offense to create chances.

Ten minutes into the second half, the deadlock was broken when Krystal received a perfectly timed pass from Sara and delivered the game's only goal. The Griffins’ teamwork and composure under pressure secured their 1-0 victory and punched their ticket to the finals.

Coaches Sarah MacLeod, Erin Fisher, and Tim Deary instilled a mindset of unwavering determination.

This championship and impressive season was the result of a season-long commitment to perseverance, dedication, and teamwork. Head Coach Erin Fisher, along with Assistant Coaches Tim Deary and Sarah MacLeod, guided the team through challenges and instilled a mindset of unwavering determination.
