In just 24 hours, more than a thousand donors contributed almost a million dollars to the Pomfret Fund.

Over the past ten years, Day of Giving has inspired thousands of donors to contribute nearly $4.5 million to the Pomfret Fund. This year, 1,136 donors contributed a whopping $918,594 — a testament to the enduring strength and generosity of the Pomfret community.

"Day of Giving is an incredible testament to the Pomfret community," says Director of Annual Giving and Constituent Programs Emily Morrison. "We are so grateful to all the donors and volunteers who came together on this one day to ensure Pomfret continues to have the resources it needs for current and future Griffins."

To kick off the day, a group of challenge donors pledged $300,000 if 1,000 people gave during the event. The Board of Trustees launched the effort with a $200,000 challenge for the first 500 gifts. Heather and Sean Rhatigan P ’25, ’29 followed with $100,000 for the next 500. Inspired by the momentum, Cai Von Rumohr ’62 and his wife, Sally GP ’28, offered $500 per donor during the final two hours — contributing $50,000. Throughout the event, the community responded with additional challenges and matches, ultimately helping Pomfret raise more than $900,000 for the Pomfret Fund.

Griffins from all generations contributed to the success of Day of Giving. With forty-three donors, the Class of 1991 had the most donors, followed by the Class of 1988, which had thirty-four. The Class of 1962 raised the most money — $51,326 — followed by the Classes of 1965 and 1991, which raised $43,396 and $41,425, respectively. Students in the Class of 2026 led the current students in the number of donations made and earned a dress-down day.

Among the various Pomfret affiliations, alumni accounted for 66 percent of the total participants, followed by parents with 20 percent. The remainder came from students and employees of the School, who each accounted for 16 percent of the gifts. Friends and grandparents each contributed between 2 and 4 percent of the total gifts to the Pomfret Fund.

This year’s Day of Giving marked a significant milestone as the final public push for Amplify, The Campaign for Pomfret School. Now nearing completion, the Campaign has helped revitalize our science facilities, boost faculty compensation and professional development, increase financial aid, invest in innovative programs, and strengthen student health and wellness — all while sustaining the vital work of the Pomfret Fund.

The Pomfret Fund represents an ongoing, renewable investment in the people who make Pomfret one of the best small independent schools in the country. Every gift, large and small, makes an immediate and lasting difference in the daily lives of our students and faculty, and we are so grateful for your support.
