Volleyball

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The varsity volleyball team has garnered much success in recent years as part of the New England Prep Schools Fall Girls Volleyball Association. Since 2007, the Griffins have been in the playoffs every year and won the 2013 and 2015 NEPSAC Class B Girls' Volleyball Tournament. The success of the team has warranted invitations for many of our players to participate in the leagues annual all-star game.

COACHES

  • Sydney Stith
    Head Coach
Originally from Montvale, New Jersey, Sydney came to Pomfret after attending Towson University in the Baltimore area. At Towson she studied History and played Division 1 Track and Field. She has always loved history and playing sports so by joining Pomfret she was given the opportunity to do both. Something she hopes to accomplish specifically at Pomfret is encouraging kids to be their very best self. She has an EXTRA large German Shepherd who sadly won’t be staying on the Hilltop with her but will visit often. While she is quite experienced with track she also played Volleyball and Basketball in high school competitively. With that background she was prompted to coach all three of those sports happily. Some of Sydney’s other interest besides sports, are music, movies, trivia, and cooking.
  • Jeremy Hatfield
    Assistant Coach
Born and raised in Peabody, Massachusetts, Jeremy grew up with two younger sisters in a neighborhood where sports were everywhere, and outdoor play was constantly encouraged. His parents had high hopes for all three children in their academic pursuits leading to Jeremy and his sisters' arrival to the hilltop and graduation from Pomfret. As a student he won academic awards and played soccer, hockey, and lacrosse at the varsity level. Jeremy went on to graduate in Environmental Science at Westfield State University. Soon after, he worked at Westfield Intermediate School for two years teaching Computer Science and was co-leading the Art Club. Jeremy also coached JV Boys Basketball and JV Boys Lacrosse in Westfield at a Vocational School and the Public High School, respectively. He believes that educational experiences that incorporate movement, sensory input, and intentional repetition of relevant terminology and basic skills offer the best opportunities for growth that sticks. Currently at Pomfret, Jeremy will be teaching Honors Pre-Calculus and Honors Algebra II as well as coaching JV Boys Hockey and JV Boys Lacrosse. His personal interests are hiking, biking, rock climbing, birding, fishing, sketching, painting, board games, cards, and sports. At Pomfret he lives in Upper IV with his 5-year-old Wheaten Terrier OB.
