Jon Sheehan joined the Pomfret community in the fall of 1999, teaching and coaching varsity soccer and lacrosse. Before arriving at Pomfret, he taught and served as the assistant dean of students at Rye Country Day School in Rye, NY, and also taught at the Glenelg Country School in Glenelg, MD. During his tenure at Pomfret, Jon has taught in the computer science department and held various administrative roles, including admissions and technology. He was the assistant director of athletics from 2008 to 2014, and then the Director of Athletics from 2014 to 2022. Currently, he serves as the Director of Technology.
Jon coached the boys' varsity lacrosse team from 2000 through 2024, serving as the head coach from 2002 to 2019. During this time, he coached 13 All-American lacrosse players and 6 Academic All-Americans. He was recognized as the US Lacrosse Eastern New England Coach of the Year in 2002, 2006, 2007, 2017, and 2019. In 2007, his peers honored him with the Eccleston Coaching Award, and in 2019, he received the Scott Shemenski Distinguished Service to Lacrosse Award. In addition to his responsibilities at Pomfret School, Jon was the president and a founder of the Pomfret Youth Lacrosse organization and served as the area representative for Eastern New England to US Lacrosse. He also possesses extensive coaching experience with the 3D New England Lacrosse Program. Beyond lacrosse, he served as the assistant and co-head coach of the boys' varsity soccer team from 1999 to 2010, helping to guide the team to the NEPSAC semi-finals in 2002.
Jon earned his bachelor's degree in education from the University of New Hampshire and holds a master’s degree in school administration from Johns Hopkins University. He resides on campus with his wife, Kelly, and their two beloved campus dogs. He is the proud parent of three Pomfret graduates: Kayla ‘10, Tucker ‘19, and Bailey ‘21.
