Brian Rice
Head Coach
A seventeen-year veteran in the classroom, Brian was appointed as Pomfret School's Mathematics Department Chair in 2009. Prior to joining Pomfret in 2003, he taught at Woodstock Academy and at Canterbury School, where he won the best teacher award and had the yearbook dedicated to him. In college, his concentrations were in calculus and statistics, specifically in actuarial science. Brian found his niche in education after working for an actuarial firm in Hartford, CT and for the United States Navy in New London, CT as a private contractor, working in a highly classified environment developing defense tactics for nuclear submarines. In addition to his work in schools, Brian was the director of an SAT prep class for years and was involved in both instruction and question development for the SAT. Throughout his career, Brian has taught math at all levels, more recently Advanced Calculus and Statistics. As department chair, he has focused on curriculum development, including advancing the use of technology in the mathematics classroom. At Pomfret, Brian coaches varsity golf, serves as an advisor, and coordinates the math extra help center. He has two children who are currently Pomfret School students and they recently moved on campus.
