Cross Country – Girls

Pomfret Girls Cross Country is a competitive, inclusive program that welcomes athletes from all backgrounds and skill levels. Competing annually in the NEPSTA Division III Conference, our runners have garnered several individual and team achievements, including All-New England honors. Each year, the team is expected to build base mileage over the summer and works throughout the fall to develop and improve endurance, speed, strength, mobility, and pacing strategies during races. With the ability to practice both on and off campus, our weekly runs vary in format and length, including long trail runs, hill repeats, track workouts, fartlek (speed play) runs, and easy “as you feel” days. We also emphasize the importance of recovery and offer cross training and yoga each week. Traditionally, the team functions like a close-knit family—a group of passionate “sister runners” who work hard, have fun, and support one another unconditionally. In 2018, the team had one of its most successful seasons to date, culminating in an historic second-place finish at the NEPSTA Division III Championships.
