Cross Country – Girls

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Pomfret Girls Cross Country program is competitive, inclusive, and welcoming to athletes of all backgrounds and skill levels. Competing annually in the NEPSTA Division III Conference, our runners have garnered several individual and team achievements, including All-New England honors. Each season, runners build base mileage over the summer and continue developing endurance, speed, strength, mobility, and pacing strategies throughout the fall. Weekly runs vary in distance and format, including trail runs, hill repeats, fartlek (speed play), and easy recovery days, with cross training and yoga incorporated to support wellness. The team operates like a close-knit family of passionate “sister runners” who train hard, have fun, and support each other unconditionally. A highlight in recent history came in 2018, when the team achieved a historic second-place finish at the NEPSTA Division III Championships.

  • Sean Murphy

Sean Murphy joined the Pomfret English faculty in 2024, after previously working at Marianapolis Preparatory School and South Kent School.  Sean has aimed to share his passion for the written word and the natural world with his students since he became a teacher after his graduation from the College of the Holy Cross in 2008.  Outside the classroom, Sean has coached a variety of sports, including rowing, track and field, and Little League baseball.  He has also organized and led several hiking trips with students on trails both near and far.  Sean lives in the nearby farm town of Woodstock with his wife, Michelle, and two kids, Gabriel and Natalie, who keep him busy during his hours off campus.
