Basketball – Boys

 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Pomfret School Boys Basketball Program is dedicated to developing high-character student-athletes who strive for excellence on and off the court. As a member of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class B, the team consistently competes at a high level, facing top-tier programs such as Canterbury, Rivers, and Brooks, as well as Class A and AA schools including Suffield Academy, Deerfield Academy, Newman School, and Cheshire Academy.

Pomfret has achieved notable success in NEPSAC Class B, qualifying for the NEPSAC Tournament in 2015, 2016, 2020, 2022, and 2025. The program has also been instrumental in helping players advance to collegiate basketball, with alumni competing at NCAA Division I, II, and III institutions. Colleges where graduates have continued their playing careers include:

    •    Sacred Heart University – MAAC, Division I
    •    The Citadel – SoCon, Division I
    •    Longwood University – Big South, Division I
    •    St. Thomas Aquinas – ECC, Division II

    •    Emory University – UAA, Division III
    •    Williams College – NESCAC, Division III
    •    Connecticut College – NESCAC, Division III

Coaches

  • Allen Harris
    Head Coach
    Coach Harris comes to Pomfret bringing a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the Hilltop. Coach Harris played collegiate basketball at Saint Anselm College, where he made an immediate impact by earning Northeast-10 (NE10) Rookie of the Year honors. He later completed his collegiate playing career at Division II Virginia State University before transitioning into coaching upon graduation. Coach Harris started his coaching career at Richard Bland College, where he helped lead the program to an NJCAA Division II National Championship. He then served as the lead assistant coach at Division II Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. He then returned to his alma mater, Virginia State University, as an assistant coach. Coach Harris then moved into professional basketball as an assistant coach with the Maine Red Claws, the NBA G League affiliate of the Boston Celtics. His work focused heavily on individual player development, detailed video analysis, and comprehensive opponent scouting reports. Before taking over the program at Pomfret, Harris returned to the New England prep school scene as an assistant coach at Noble and Greenough School.
  • Gabriel Qua
    Assistant Coach
    Raised in a family of educators, Gabe grew up with nightly dinner table conversations about what he learned at school that day and quizzes about the US presidents. His father, a high school history teacher, and his mother, an elementary art teacher, instilled in him a deep respect for both creativity and critical thought. A lifelong athlete, Gabe found his second home on the basketball court, a passion that led him to play college basketball at Lasell University. It was there that he discovered how powerful the intersection of teaching, coaching, and mentorship could be. Now in his first year as both a teacher and coach, Gabe is excited to build strong relationships and help students grow both in and out of the classroom
