Baseball

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Pomfret has a storied baseball tradition. Perched near the crest of the Hilltop, Mallory Field houses the Griffins on one of New England’s premier grass fields with in-ground dugouts, a carefully maintained clay mound and infield, and a picturesque hillside view beyond the outfield fence.
The Pomfret Baseball Program of today is driven by a four-word motto: “Think Baseball, Play Baseball.” These actions highlight the key components of Pomfret Baseball, Baseball IQ, Brotherhood, and Dedication. The program believes that baseball does not just happen during the three-month long spring season, but rather it takes a year-round approach in order to find success. This does not require players to be hitting, fielding, and throwing without pause, instead, the goal is for them to be thinking about the game whenever they can. Phenomenal will always beat phenomenal skill.
Pomfret plays in the competitive Western New England Prep Baseball League against perennial New England powerhouses like Cheshire, Canterbury, Salisbury, and Williston. Each year, the team travels down to Florida for a spring training trip to get game-ready for their competitive schedule, having spent the early weeks of the spring hitting and fielding in their on-campus fieldhouse facility.
