The Battle for Route 44

IN 2021, A RIVALRY BEGAN. The Pomfret Griffins vs. the Millbrook Mustangs, two schools on opposite sides of the same road, connecting the western town of Millbrook, NY, with the eastern town of Pomfret, CT. Now an annual event, the Battle for Route 44 is one of the biggest days on the school calendar, the kind of day you circle a year in advance. The daylong tournament includes field hockey, volleyball, soccer, and football, culminating in the raising of the Peck-Pulling Trophy, named after the founders of our two schools. See last year's photos »

Saturday, November 11

Come cheer on the home team as your Pomfret Griffins take on the Millbrook Mustangs.

Last year, Pomfret traveled to Millbrook for the second annual Pomfret vs. Millbrook Day, winning the Battle for Route 44 for the second year in a row. This year, we have home field advantage and are thirsty for a three-peat. With ten games all starting between 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., the energy will be palpable and the competition will be fierce. Game day snacks and a buffet lunch will be provided. We'll play the games. You bring the cheer.

Restaurants

There are two good restaurants within walking distance of Pomfret. Downtown Putnam also has a number of great options. For lunch, we suggest the Vanilla Bean in Pomfret. For dinner, we suggest 85 Main in Putnam.

Lodging

The Quiet Corner is home to a number of small bed and breakfasts, and a smattering of larger hotels. The Inn at Woodstock Hill, about 10 minutes away, is a wonderful choice. Comfort Inn and Suites, in nearby Dayville, is another popular (less expensive) option.
