Financial Aid

Pomfret’s Financial Aid program is designed to make a Pomfret education possible for all families based on demonstrated financial need and the availability of funds.

Tuition assistance is available to families that demonstrate a need for support by completing a financial aid application. When you submit your admission application, be sure to indicate that you will be applying for financial aid.

The deadline for completing the financial aid application, including relevant supplemental documents, is February 1 for New Families and December 15 for Returning Families.

How to Apply

Pomfret uses a nationally standardized system for financial aid offered by a platform called Clarity.

The Clarity Application determines a family’s level of financial need based on the information that the family shares in the application, which includes assets, income, expenses, and debts. The application typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete and there is a $60 fee to submit. Pomfret requires you to upload additional tax documentation, including your 2023 W-2 and 1040 after completing the application.

We want outstanding scholars and citizens at Pomfret School.

Given annually, Merit scholarships are awarded to applicants with proven potential to make a substantial contribution to the school through academic excellence, leadership in curricular and co-curricular activities, and service to the Pomfret community.

James Pinkham

Titles: Director of Financial Aid, Associate Director of Admissions

Work: 860-963-6174
Biography:
James is a 2006 graduate of Pomfret School and returned to the hilltop in 2025 as Associate Director of Admissions before being named Director of Financial Aid in 2026. His experience includes teaching history, running a dorm, advising, and coaching lacrosse, football, and wrestling at the high school and middle school levels. Before returning to Pomfret, James was the Director of Enrollment Management at Rocky Hill Country Day School (RI) with other stops at New Hampton School (NH), Ridley College (Ontario), and Forman School (CT).

Growing up in Rhode Island where his father worked in boarding school admissions, it's not surprising that James was drawn to independent schools himself and got involved on campus as a two-year Key Head among other roles. After Pomfret, he attended St. Lawrence University and graduated with a degree in history and minor in education while competing on the football team. He later received his Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of New England in 2014. First teaching after graduation, the pull back to admissions was strong and he's spent most of his career focused on enrollment.

The Pinkhams live on campus. In addition to admissions work he is the Assistant Coach for the Boys' Varsity Lacrosse team, a dorm parent, and an advisor. You can find him cheering on Pomfret students all over campus, planning his next travel, cooking, or hitting golf balls with varying levels of success.
