Admission Process

Every great journey begins with a first step.

If you are ready to get started, so are we. Just follow the instructions below and take special note of the key dates to the right so that you stay on track. If you have any questions along the way, please give us a call at 860.963.6120 or send us an email at admissions@pomfret.org. We are here to help and look forward to considering your application to our independent school in Connecticut.

Tell us you are interested

Fill out our inquiry form so that we can stay in touch with you throughout the application process. You’ll receive periodic emails with information about Pomfret, invitations to upcoming events, and notifications when required application materials are received.

We recommend inquiring during the summer or early fall.

Schedule a VISIT

After completing the inquiry form, contact the Admission Office by phone at 860.963.6120 or by email at admissions@pomfret.org to schedule an interview with an admission officer and take a campus tour with a student guide. Visits last approximately two hours. This includes time to complete the interview and take the tour.

We recommend visiting in the fall or early winter.

Complete the application

Pomfret uses the Standard Application Online (SAO) for all candidates. An application includes the following components: applicant information, application fee, student essays, parent questionnaire, current and prior year transcripts, recommendations, and graded writing sample.

Applications are due by January 15.

International Applicants

The application process is the same for both international and domestic students. However, students whose first language is not English are expected to take the TOEFL exam. For applicants residing in and attending school in locations where test centers are currently closed, Pomfret will accept the IELTS Indicator, Duo Lingo (DET), TOEFL IBT Special Home Edition and TOEFL ITP Plus Vericant until regular testing resumes. Pomfret’s TOEFL test code is 8141. We do not accept TOEFL Junior to meet testing requirements.

International applicants attending school in China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan are required to complete an in-person or remote interview with Vericant. In most instances, the Vericant interview will serve as the only interview for an applicant's file.
