For every assessment, your student is evaluated using a scale of 0 to 4. If the course has six outcomes, for example, your student can receive up to six scores, one for each outcome being assessed.
4 – Excelling beyond the standard – blue 3 – Practicing skillfully – green 2 – Developing independent proficiency – yellow 1 – Needing ongoing support – orange 0 – Insufficient evidence – red
As part of this grades to growth approach, students at Pomfret also receive detailed written feedback after each assessment. The depth and direction of the feedback depends on the growth and progress of the student, but in essence, this approach allows teachers to “coach” students on where and how they can improve relative to the outcomes for each course.
The CBL method of assessment and feedback described above is an internal practice used by our teachers to help your student grow and mature, not an external reporting mechanism. Pomfret still issues letter grades on the report card and the official transcript.
