The most important
outcome  is reaching your maximum potential.

No two people are the same — in their interests or their aspirations. That's why we have taken the kind of high quality educational experience you'd expect from a top New England boarding school and made it personal.

Outcomes

At Pomfret courses are based on sets of clearly defined learning outcomes. An outcome is a concept or skill that a student is expected to master before the end of the course. There are between six and ten unique learning outcomes in a given course.

Feedback & Assessment

Teachers use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress on a regular basis. Students are assessed on a four-point scale that is applied to individual course outcomes for every assessment. Students also receive detailed written feedback to help them understand where they are succeeding and where they are falling short.

Learning Record

Based on the Portrait of the Pomfret Graduate, the Pomfret Learning Record is a digital, interactive document that provides a framework for students to reflect on their learning and growth. The top layer is an easy-to-digest snapshot of all the competencies a student has earned during their time at Pomfret. The bottom layer consists of a robust student-curated portfolio that they can share with colleges.

Go wide. Then go deep.

Our academic program is based on
a carefully designed track and sequence
of programmatic offerings.

By taking the rigor, challenge, and curriculum of a proven college prep experience and making it personal, Pomfret’s distinctive brand of education reflects a standard of excellence that challenges, engages, and inspires each student to succeed. Pomfret teaching faculty, who are experts in their field, encourage students to go wide as they explore their interests, and then go deep once they find them.
