Unity Groups

Pomfret Unity Groups are groups for students, faculty, and staff, aimed at bringing together individuals with a common identity while offering guidance and support. They are an integral part of the Pomfret mission. These unity groups support the school’s goal of making sure all in the Pomfret community feel loved, supported, seen, and heard. Given that inclusion is a crucial part of the Pomfret mission, most unity groups at Pomfret are open to allies — individuals who may not share the unity group’s specific identity but who otherwise share an interest in it.

Asian Student Alliance

Pomfret's Asian Student Alliance (ASA) is a group that strives to serve as a hub for Asian and Asian American students of all nationalities and to advocate on behalf of its members for greater academic and social inclusion. ASA recognizes and actively represents Asian and Asian American culture by sponsoring a variety of activities and events that showcase Asia's unique and diverse cultures in the Pomfret community. Students unite to discuss identity and current social issues as well as hold bonding events to strengthen the Asian community at Pomfret. ASA’s holds monthly general meetings, socials, guest speakers and advocacy workshops. ASA emphasizes teamwork and family within the group.

Pomfret's Asian Student Alliance (ASA) provides a support group for Asian and Asian American students on campus while addressing academic, political, and social issues through community events aimed at cultivating a stronger understanding of Asia's unique and diverse cultures on campus. ASA seeks to create an inclusive environment by strengthening the impact on the greater student body through advocacy and cultural awareness.

Black Student Union

Pomfret's Black Student Union (BSU) is a unity group specifically dedicated to encouraging cultural diversity and designed to advocate around issues that are important to Black, Brown, and multiracial students attending Pomfret School.

Pomfret's BSU is a unity group designed to advocate around issues that are important to Black and multi-racial students attending Pomfret School. Our goal is to promote social engagement and foster student growth & development on Black culture while working together to become a support network that will result in higher academic achievement, increased positive behavior and a greater level of civic responsibility on the part of Black students at Pomfret School.

Gender and Sexuality Alliance

Pomfret's Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA) is a group that aims to create a safe, welcoming, and accepting school environment for all youth, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. GSA unites LGBTQ2S+ and allied youth to build community and organize around issues impacting us in our school community. Our GSA has evolved beyond the traditional role to serve as safe spaces for LGBTQ2S+ youth in high schools and have emerged as vehicles for deep social change related to racial, gender, and educational justice.

Pomfret's Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA) provides a safe and welcoming space for any student who wants to talk about issues related to sexual orientation or gender identity and expression. We seek to create greater awareness about the issues and unique experiences faced by the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning (LGBTQ2S+) community. We work to create a school community where all students feel welcome and supported, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Jewish Student Union

The Jewish Student Union (JSU) is a unity group that works to create opportunities and programming to support Jewish students at Pomfret School. Through social gatherings, group discussions, celebrations of holidays, and planning programming we connect with one another and celebrate our shared Jewish identities.

Pomfret's JSU is a unity group specifically designed to advocate around issues that are important to Jewish students attending Pomfret School. Our goal is to provides a place for students to gather in volunteering and fundraising and provides resources for spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. JSU has no denominational affiliation.

La Familia

La Familia is Pomfret's Hispanic / Latinx unity group that works to create an environment for all students to explore the Latinx/Hispanic culture specifically within the pomfret Community. La Familia encourages members to openly converse about current events, pop culture and history pertinent to the Latinx/Hispanic community in a safe group setting. The club not only provides representation for all Latinx/Hispanic and multi-racial students but extends opportunities for all students to have a better understanding of the Latinx/Hispanic history and heritage. We are dedicated to creating a strong community within our school.
